Im a black girl, and my bf is white and he has redish hair, what are the chances of our kids having

According to what I studied in genetics the color black (for hair, eyes and complexion) is dominant over lighter colors (e.g. red). The biochemical basis of this phenomenon were explained by the presence (i.e. black complexion) or absence (i.e. white complexion) of melanine in the skin or hair.

Therefore, If the black partner does not have any ancestor with red or blond hair, the kids will all have black hair.

Interestingly, I remember a picture from the textbook showing young kids born from an interracial marriage with blond hair that finally turned black during their first years of life. The textbook explained that, in that case, the black parent did not have any ancestor with white complexion and therefore the offspring finally turned black.

On the other hand, if the black partner has ancestors with red or blond hair the offspring can also have blond or red hair.

What are the chances this guy even wants to have kids with you? If you do ever have kids together, I hope you're mature enough to only care that they're healthy, and that the two of you are financially able to bring them up in a safe environment.

I guess it all depends on which genes are more dominant. Funny that I'm reading this because I was on MySpace last night looking up people from my high school. There is a couple that got married and had kids. The guy is black and his wife is white and has red hair. They have 4 kids and the oldest boy has red hair. The other kids don't.

anything can happen. i read an article about this black woman that married a pale white man. now people assumed that her baby will either be amber or black...her skin is extremely black..haha you know how there are some afro americans w/creme color and others that are really dark? well she's dark. and her baby came out pale white with blue eyes.

it goes on but i don't want to get out of the subject.

hi Veronica, I think chances are slim: as far as I know in these cases black race's traits tend to overpower the white ones. I don't know whether this is good or bad news and, of course, everything is possible. Keep us posted ;) ciao

It depends if you carry the genetic for red hair. If you do, and one of your eggs have it and it comes with a sperm with the same red hair genetic/chromosomes, your child would have red hair. Other wise if one of your eggs is brown/black hair, and comes with his red hair sperm, it'll only become a carrier for the red haired chromosome, and would have brown/black hair!

Hope it helped!
