My daughter Autumn is four and she has long light brown hair to her butt. She tells everyone she has "princess" hair

I work at a hair salon but I have never cut her hair before, I have trimmed it a couple times. She told me that she wants to cut her "princess hair and give it to a kid with no hair.

Have any ideas of how short I should cut it?

as for the cut, give her someting she'd like that would still make her look like a princess:) make sure you can still style it and everything so shes not dissapointed

Aw, she sounds like a precious and very kind little girl. Don't they need at least 7 inches to make wigs? I'd look into that and confirm first, and then I'd cut away! Maybe just a blunt chin-length cut. That'll be precious. And good luck with the triplets!!! WOW!

my little sister's hair was that long at one time, it was a pain to wash, manage, and live with. so yes cut it. as to how long? thats really up to you and your daughter. My sister had it cut to about her shoulders

It's a beutiful thing that she wants to do this, my friends doughter has lukemia and is going for treatment, she lost all her hair and was very sad because children made fun of her, she then got a wig specially made for children like her, she is now very happy little girl. Your doughter will eventually grow it back.

Shoulder length may be nice for her, then you still has enough to braid, and so on.

I personally wouldn't unless it was getting in the way of her doing everyday normal activities. But since she has told you she wants to, then that is fine. It will always grow back! If she would like to donate to locks of love I would seriously encourage it! That is a wonderful giving of herself and a view of the world other then herself! She is wise beyond her years! Do it!

How short you should cut it?? I think you have to check with the people you are going to donate it to... they need a specific length to work with. And before you cut if off, have your daughter wear a wig the same lenght that she will have it so it won't be so dramatic on her not having the hair she is used to having.

Since she's never really had a short hair do it's probably best to consult with her before deciding on how short you should go. I mean some adults still get traumatize when they get a hair cut that is shorter than what they expect and ends up regretting it. For a child it might be worse? But who knows since she is so caring it might not bother her.

I had hair like that. When I was in the 4th grade I cut it half to my back and then in 7th grade after growing past my butt I cut it to my chin and donated it. That was able to make two wigs for someone. You should see what type of hair style or how short your daughter wants it to be.

Your daughter wants to do something so amazing for a child to think about. Be very proud of her, and remind her and anyone else who complains about the cutting that it is hair and will grow back. Call the organization you want to give her hair to. They sometimes have guidelines on how long they want the donated hair. I believe it's about 10 inches. I think with your babies on the way that a short hair cut for your daughter may just give you an easier time than brushing all that hair. Maybe a cut that's to the shoulders, if you want could have it flip when you had time to dress her up, or just long enough to pull it into a short ponytail. I always had my daughters hair pulled up for school because of the threat of lice. Good luck with everything you have got going on.

Try Locks of Love. I think the recommend at least 10 inches. I would only cut off what you need to. She may be a bit shocked by anything really short. I am guessing you could cut it at her shoulders and have approx 10 inches. If you find you only need 7-8 inches, then only cut that much. I would look into the program you wish to send it to first to be sure you are cutting enough for their needs.

Hair must be in a ponytail or braid before it is cut.

Hair must be clean and completely dry before it is mailed in.
