When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

My boys, ages 4 %26amp; 5, want mohawks. There have been a lot of kids around here doing it %26amp; they think it's so cool. Not the spiked up kind, just the short ones with the sides shaved. I kinda feel like, if that's what they want, let em do it. My hubby says no way. What is your opinion?

my son is almost 8 and wants a mohawk. i said yes, dad said no. we compromised and agreed he could do this hair style during the summer months when he had no school. its just hair. if it looks stupid, it'll grow back.

You and your husband need to decide this together. You should discuss what the pros and cons are, and then come to a decision you can both live with. I

Ultimately, at their age and you being a parent, it should be your decision at this point in their lives.

At least, if you are going to allow free reign, possibly not allow extreme haircuts like mohawks, but an average cut.

Who knows, really, because I have trouble getting a short cut out of my parents at age 18.

Once they are responsible enough to take care of everything themselves, at LEAST 16. They should not get a mohawk at all. They look insanely dumb, especially on little kids.

Aww. I think mohawks are soo cute on little boys. I remember when that show "Meet the Barker's" came out and Travis barker (from blink 182) had just a little baby boy with one.. soo cute lol.

I think that as long as the hair cut isn't rediculous then go for it. Self expression especially in young kids is wonderful as long as it isn't hurtfull or offensive to anyone. Also, you know they probably won't give it a rest until they get the haircut. Might as well let them decide if they like the mohawk better or their regular hair cut. .I guess mohawks are the new rat tails of this generation haha.

If they are old enough to have opinions then they are old enough to make some decisions for themselves. Its just hair, it will grow back, and they will probably change their mind in a month anyway

When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

no i wouldnt let them their to young

When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

I've let my children decide their hair cuts since they were old enough to ask. However, if my husband were to say absolutely NO to a haircut, I think it's something I could compromise on.

It's not a life and death issue, so if he really had objections to it, maybe it's best to just forgo the mohawks for now.

When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

well I have seen boy about that age with mohawks , its only hair and it will grow back

plus it makes the boys feel grown up, its okay for kids to make a decision like that

Good Luck

I think kids should be able to have there hair cut the way they want to as long As it is ok with their parents. The parents have reasons why they don't want some cuts. You may want to ask your husband why he feel the way he does. You may have to find something that is ok with boys and dad.

Your hubby is one smart man!

When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

I feel your pain. My son is wanting to grow his hair like a skater long in the front. He has been a clean cut marine stlye since 2 now at 12.. it;s not cool mom :(

When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

I always let my son get his haircut the way he wanted as long as it wasn't to an extreme.

When he was little, the kids were wearing the mushroom cut, after that he wanted the little tail in the back. I allowed it. The tail wasn't down his back. I didn't see any problems with it.

It's hair it will grow back.

When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

I'd probably let them get it. They are young enough, however, that it's ok to say no. It's their hair and it will grow back soon since they're boys. My parents were always a bit picky till I was 11 or so since girl hair doesn't grow back as fast. They let me have the xena cut when I wanted it. It didn't end well, but it was my mistake to make.

When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

Personally, I think its important to let kids express themsleves. As one person already said, if they are old enough to have opinions, they are old enough to make some of their own decisions. As long as its not something that will get them hurt (a haircut wont!). Being as young as they are, chances are they'll get tired of the look by the time their hair grows back!

When should kids be able to decide how they want their hair cut?

Personally, I think they shouldn't be able to decide, as long as they live under your roof, they will do what they're told to do, and until they're 18, then they can decided.

If it bothers your husband so much, I would just try and come to a compromise. I would suggest having the hairstylist just make the sides a little shorter than the top. That way they can use some gel and hairspray to spike up the middle for fun occasions. But for everyday wear you can just brush it down like you normally would.

As far as i'm concerned, it's just hair. I could really care less what my kids do to their hair. As long as they wash it when it gets dirty I don't care if it's polka dotted and ten feet long.

My only requirement would be that it doesn't get them in trouble at school. Also, if they want something other than a conventional trim or basic highlights they have to pay for it themselves or earn the money at home somehow. At the ages of 4 and 5 you don't really have that option, just something to think about when they get older.

I'm sure I made my parents cringe with my outrageous hair in school, but I made my "statements" with my hair early, and therefore got over that phase early.
